Successful Marketing Tips in a Recession
Are companies in a marketing freeze as we await election results along with what will happen to taxes in Washington? We have companies giving their lowest approval ratings for the job Congress is doing in DC. With the uncertainties of election results, taxes, and healthcare costs for businesses, your marketing efforts have to be much more pinpointed in order to reach your targeted consumers. Over the past few years, consumers have less expendable income and they feel poorer. These conditions make people more frugal and cautious when spending their hard-earned dollars.

Marketing Campaigns to “Trade Up” are Now Out
By Monte Brackett
The latest on mass affluence is not promising. The US suffered a huge financial blow during these last few years of economic downturn and the biggest losers were the middle-class consumers. These make up nearly half of the Americans who are now “financially fragile”. Per the Pew Center who found in a 2009 TNS Global data report, this group makes up 45 percent of Americans who could not come up with $2000 in 30 days to pay for unexpected emergencies. In the Ad Age/Digitas report, consumers over the age of 35 in the $100,000-$199,000 income range have lost ground or find themselves hard pressed to stay even with the lifestyle they had prior to 2007.

2011 Pet Owner Spending Stats
Artie, Max, Colin and now Tarmac (the stray cat)
Oh how we love our pets. I am bias; I have three pets that control my life, all dogs. However I recently started to feed the neighborhood stray cat so it looks like I have another mouth to feed, Tarmac. As I was looking through our neighborhood pet journal, yes they have devoted an entire newsprint around our furry friends, I found these stats on how much we adore our dogs and cats. I also have to admit I fall into each one of these stats. Do you?
