Closed, Says Google, but Shops’ Signs Say Open
Source: CNBC.com Tuesday Sept. 6, 2011
By: David Segal
In mid-August, Jason Rule learned some surprising news about the coffee shop that he owns and operates in Hays, Kan.: the place had closed for good.
Not in the real world, where it is thriving. Coffee Rules Lounge was listed for a few days as “permanently closed” on Google Maps. During that time, anyone searching for a latte on a smartphone, for instance, would have assumed the store was a goner.
“We’re not far from Interstate 70,” said Mr. Rule, “and I have no doubt that a lot of people running up and down that highway just skipped us.”

If it’s an online offer – make it an online offer
By Monte Brackett
I recently took a vacation with my family and used my iPad, UrbanSpoon application, to access some information on a nice restaurant
in the local area. I recommend the Urban Spoon app for good out of town restaurant finds. I found a Thai restaurant in Celebration, Florida just outside Orlando. It provided me with some good reviews and a coupon code for 10% off our meal. As travelers we did not have access to printing off the coupon so when we arrived we mentioned we had an online coupon to the waitress. She didn’t seem to mind at the time, however when the bill came we were given a hard time about using it because we didn’t have a hard copy. The coupon had an online coupon code but the waitress didn’t seem willing or obliging enough to write it down without a printed copy.

Suggestions to comparing local business proposals
By Laurie Panas Brackett
By now I hope you have read my blogs on Think Globally but Buy Locally and 10 reasons why you should buy from your local business. This is the last in this series on buying locally for now. Every business is scrutinizing estimates and seeking to save money everywhere they can. So let’s make sure that you compare those estimates equally.
This blog is based on comparing local suppliers’ proposals:
10 reasons why you should buy from a local business
By Laurie Panas Brackett
1- Read my blog on Think globally but buy locally
2- Relationship Development & Loyalty—When you purchase locally, you have the advantage of developing relationships with the supplier or vendor. When a problem occurs with the product or service you have someone who will help you through it and resolve the issue typically faster and with less down time from your staff’s involvement. You also have the advantage of exchanging your company’s information for sales opportunities with that company.
