If it’s an online offer – make it an online offer

By Monte Brackett

I recently took a vacation with my family and used my iPad, UrbanSpoon application, to access some information on a nice restaurant in the local area. I recommend the Urban Spoon app for good out of town restaurant finds. I found a Thai restaurant in Celebration, Florida just outside Orlando. It provided me with some good reviews and a coupon code for 10% off our meal. As travelers we did not have access to printing off the coupon so when we arrived we mentioned we had an online coupon to the waitress. She didn’t seem to mind at the time, however when the bill came we were given a hard time about using it because we didn’t have a hard copy. The coupon had an online coupon code but the waitress didn’t seem willing or obliging enough to write it down without a printed copy.

But the manager took a look at the iPad he did proceed with the online offer. But again, didn’t I mention this was an on-line offer?

The above example is counter intuitive and an example of what not to do with your online marketing. If you are promoting an online offer, you must make it easy for consumers to do business with you. Especially if you are targeting out of town customers who will not be carrying around pocket printers to print out your coupons.

I recommend offers that specify exactly how they can be redeemed. You want people to seek out your business via I-Pad, Smart-Phone, or other mobile devices and be able to use the coupon or offer with ease. Each of the personnel at the business should be made aware of all offers so they can take care of the customers immediately without questions. It should be transparent and seamless for the customer so they recommend your place of business with a review.
