Sales, Revenues, Marketing Goal Setting

24 06 2010

I am attending a wonderful Triathlon Training class given by Evolve Multisport. I was asked by the President and owner of Evolve, Marisa Pirih, MS RN,  to do a goal setting session.  One of the other participants just emailed me that he really enjoyed learning about goal setting and could he apply the tips he learned to setting business goals?

There really isn’t any difference between setting personal or professional goals for yourself.   Doing professional goals is almost the same except you may need to incorporate other team members that will help you achieve your goals.

Here are some tips I shared during that Triathlon class:

What is a goal?

Something you want to achieve that has a measureable result,

that is attainable, tells how you will attain it and provides a certain time limit.

A goal must be have a measureable result – complete a 10k

Is the goal attainable – yes

How will you attain the goal?  With a workout plan, workout coach, training, etc.

When do I want to complete my goal by?

What you need in order to succeed in your goals:

Must write down the Whys, Hows, Whens and Whats/Rewards

Why are you doing the goal?  Without a “why” in the goal it becomes meaningless and you will not complete it

How are you going to complete the goal? What is the plan you will follow?  Can you find a coach or mentor that has done it who can teach you?  What do you have to learn to complete the goal?

When are you going to complete the goal?  You must have a completion date.

What are some obstacles?  List every one of them you can think of.

With that comes the “How”.  How can I overcome each of these obstacles?

What are you going to get when you complete the goal?  You must have a REWARD [this is really important]

If you are setting professional goals;

Will there be others that you will have to depend on to achieve this goal?

How will you motivate them to help you in achieving your goals?

Princeton Marketing Group works with clients on goal setting as it pertains to their company’s sales, revenue and marketing.  If you would like more information on setting and achieving your professional marketing goals contact
